NSW Mine Goes Green: Pacific Energy's Hybrid Power Solution
- Pacific Energy revolutionizes mining operations with a 26-MW hybrid system, reducing diesel consumption and increasing renewable energy usage at Tronox's Atlas-Campaspe site.
Pacific Energy has secured a deal to build a 26-MW hybrid system with solar, batteries, and diesel generators to power Tronox’s Atlas-Campaspe mineral sands mining activities in New South Wales. The company will design and deliver an installation comprising an 11-MW solar PV park, 3 MW/6 MWh of battery energy storage systems, and 12 MW of diesel generation, reducing the mine's diesel consumption by almost 5 million liters annually.
The hybrid park will replace 35 diesel generators with solar arrays and batteries, providing up to 40% renewables power to the site. Construction is set to begin in June, with the project expected to be energized by mid-2025. This marks Pacific Energy's first power system in New South Wales, with plans for future expansion to incorporate more renewable and thermal energy sources.
What renewable energy sources will Pacific Energy incorporate in future projects?
- Wind energy
- Hydroelectric power
- Geothermal energy
- Biomass energy
- Wave and tidal energy
