NRN Secures $44M to Boost Virtual Power Plant Expansion
- NRN secures AUD 67.2M to expand Virtual Power Plants, boosting Australia's renewable energy transition with accessible solar and battery solutions.

Australian distributed energy company NRN has secured AUD 67.2 million (USD 43.6 million) in equity and debt to expand its platform for Virtual Power Plants (VPPs). The Series A funding round, one of Australia's largest in climate tech, was led by Investible, Virescent Ventures, Electrifi Ventures, and Ecotone Partners' Planet Fund. NRN also received significant debt backing from Infradebt managed funds, including the Australian Ethical Infrastructure Debt Fund. The company partners with energy retailers to provide solar and battery systems without upfront costs, acting as an infrastructure intermediary between the solar industry and retailers like Alinta Energy.
Over the past two years, NRN has expanded its network by over 600%, managing AUD 12 million in renewable energy assets and nearly 10 MWh of installed battery capacity. With total funding now exceeding AUD 85 million, NRN plans to deploy an additional 40 MWh of batteries in the next year. Blair Pritchard of Virescent Ventures highlighted the importance of NRN's model in accelerating Australia's renewable transition by increasing storage capacity and making solar and battery technology more accessible to households, thereby supporting energy retailers and reducing grid pressure.
