Novelis Powers Italy with $2.4 Mil Solar Park

- This year, a $2.4 million solar park at the Pieve Emanuele, Italy production facility is set to help decarbonize operations and reduce carbon emissions by 1,450 tons annually. Surplus electricity generated outside the plant will be used by locals. Set to start operating by the end of this year.
The company's $2.4 million solar park at its production facility in Pieve Emanuele, Italy is aimed at decarbonizing its operations and reduce its carbon emissions by 1,450 tons annually. The park will source 12 per cent of its electricity demand and surplus electricity generated outside of the plant’s operating hours will be utilized by neighbouring communities. The solar park is expected to begin operating by the end of this year.
How Will Solar Park Reduce Carbon Emissions?
- The solar park has a capacity of 2.9 MWp and is expected to generate around 3,500 MWh of electricity per year.
- The park is made up of 8,000 polycrystalline and monocrystalline modules and will be installed on 14,000 square meters of land.
- The company has also signed an agreement with local energy cooperative CO.VI.SE. to combine the solar park's production during peak hours with the local grid.
- The solar park is part of the company's larger sustainability plan, which includes a commitment to reduce its global carbon footprint by 15 per cent by 2025.
- The company has committed to investing €20 million into renewable energy projects over the next three years.
- The solar park is expected to save the company up to £1.5 million in energy costs annually.
