New community solar set up marks milestone for ComEd
- ComEd as well as Summit Ridge Energy (SRE) have actually introduced the opening of the 75th community solar advancement in ComEd's service territory. The 2.5-MW Speedway Solar project 10 miles southern of Joliet, Illinois, will supply greater than 350 ComEd consumers with accessibility to the benefits of solar power as well as savings on their energy bills.
" The completion of 75 community solar advancements in our service territory is a significant milestone on our course to a clean energy future," stated Scott Vogt, VP of approach and energy policy at ComEd. "Our partnership with Summit Ridge Energy is increasing client access to clean as well as budget friendly renewable energy and also contributing to the goal of lowering carbon emissions in our communities."
The Speedway Solar project includes more than 2,300 solar panels and also occupies 31 acres on West Sharp Road in Elwood, Illinois, about 60 miles southwest of Chicago. It will enable ComEd consumers that may not have the roofing system space or financial means to mount their own solar power generation system to recognize the benefits of solar power. Community solar customers gain credit reports on their monthly utility bills for their portion of the energy created by the solar project. Energy produced by community solar flows to the electrical grid to become part of the overall energy supply.
" We are delighted to build on our long-lasting collaboration with ComEd by creating its 75th community solar project in northern Illinois," said Mark Raeder, principal at SRE. "We credit ComEd for aiding to accelerate the development of community solar in the region and also establishing Illinois as a leader in the fast-growing community solar market."
By the end of this year, ComEd expects to have increased the variety of community solar projects adjoined to its electric grid to more than 150, serving around 36,000 customers.
