Neoen Breaks Ground on 24.7 MWp Solar Farms in Italy, Aiming to Slash CO2 Emissions
- Neoen's solar farms in Italy will prevent CO2 emissions, power thousands of homes, and benefit from simplified planning rules. They have also secured solar projects in France to power tens of thousands of people.
Renewable energy company Neoen has begun construction on three solar farms in Italy, with a combined capacity of 24.7 MWp. The farms, located in Lombardy and Marche, are expected to be commissioned in early 2025 and will prevent the emission of around 37,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. They are also projected to generate enough electricity to power over 9,000 homes. Neoen credited the simplified planning rules implemented by the Italian government for enabling the rapid and efficient development of the projects. Italy aims to generate nearly two-thirds of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
In addition to the Italian projects, Neoen has been awarded a tender for 104.4 MWp of solar projects in France. The four projects, ranging from 14.4 to 30 MWp, are expected to be commissioned between 2025 and 2028. Once operational, the photovoltaic power plants will produce the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of at least 50,000 people in France.
