MUFG Finances Mississippi Solar+Storage Project

  • Origis Energy secures USD-344m loan from MUFG to finance a 200 MWac solar and 200 MWh energy storage project in Lowndes County, Mississippi. The project will provide 500 MWac of solar and 600 MWh of battery storage, supplying electricity with grid resiliency for a 25-year period. Construction has already started.

Origis Energy has secured a USD-344m loan from MUFG to finance the Golden Triangle I project, a 200 MWac solar power development which will be co-located with 200 MWh of energy storage in Lowndes County, Mississippi. The loan will cover construction of the project and will be converted into a long-term loan covering the entire 25-year operational life. In total, the three projects will have 500 MWac of solar and 600 MWh of battery storage capacity, all providing electricity and grid resiliency under a power purchase agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority. Construction of the Golden Triangle II project began in October this year.

What Financing is Securing Origis Energy's Golden Triangle Solar and Storage Projects?

  • In addition to the USD-344m loan from MUFG, Origis Energy has secured an additional USD-343m from Mizuho Bank to finance the Golden Triangle III project.
  • The loan will be structured as a long-term loan covering the entire 25-year operational life of the projects.
  • The funds will be used to construct and operate the three projects, which will have a total of 500 MWac of solar and 600 MWh of battery storage capacity.
  • The projects will also provide electricity and grid resiliency under a power purchase agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority.
  • Origis Energy has also secured a USD-150m tax equity commitment from Bank of America for the Golden Triangle II project.
  • The tax equity will be used to fund construction of the project and will provide additional financing for the project over its 25-year operating life.
