Microsoft Secures Solar RECs in Nexamp Partnership

Microsoft has entered a long-term agreement with Nexamp to purchase renewable energy certificates (RECs) from a 300-MW solar portfolio. Nexamp will develop, build, and operate approximately 100 new distributed solar projects across five US regions, including New England, New York, Mid-Atlantic, Midwestern, and Western states. The solar parks are expected to be commissioned over the next four years, providing power equivalent to the annual consumption of nearly 100,000 homes.
This initiative supports Microsoft's goal to become carbon negative by 2030, complementing a recent deal to procure electricity from a 335-MW wind farm in West Virginia. Nexamp CEO Zaid Ashai highlighted the collaboration's role in promoting solar accessibility and local economic growth.
