Maxeon Solar Technologies announced plans to build a 3-GW solar cell and panel factory in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This new facility will bring the company's total North American solar panel manufacturing capacity to 4.8 GW. The company plans to begin construction in the first quarter of 2024 and estimates the new facility will create up to 1,800 jobs, including manufacturing and engineering roles. Maxeon Solar's Performance line of solar modules will be manufactured here while the Maxeon series of interdigitated back contact (IBC) technology panels will be manufactured out of an existing plant in Malaysia. The company is also eligible for a DOE loan and various tax credits for the project. This new plant will help the US reshore and scale up a domestic solar supply chain and contribute to the country's energy security.
