A Masdar–ENGIE consortium reached financial close on the 1.5-GW Al Ajban Solar PV project in Abu Dhabi, one of the world’s largest single-site plants. Backed by a long-term offtake with Emirates Water and Electricity Company, the package blends long-tenor debt and sponsor equity to keep costs low and secure supply-chain slots.
The plant will use bifacial modules on single-axis trackers, string inverters, and a grid-code-tuned controller. Its substation is “battery-ready” for future multi-hour storage. Construction will mobilize thousands, with long-term O&M jobs and localization across cables, steel, and services. Once online, Al Ajban will add low-cost midday power and pave the way for storage-paired assets.
