Specifically, the commission has actually greenlit the contract for the Bayou Galion solar project found in Morehouse Parish that has a straight present (DC) capacity of 132 MW. The plant is expected to be up and running in 2024.

The project becomes part of 1803 Electric Cooperative's recently-approved power generation profile of 343 MW to supply energy to five rural electric cooperatives for the next 20 years.

"1803 complied with all of the commission rules as well as conducted a competitive RFP, where 31 prospective buyers presented 197 qualifying offers," said LPSC chairman Craig Greene.

As of end-2021, Louisiana had about 200 MW of set up solar capacity.
