Leeward Renewable Energy LLC has launched its 100-MW Oak Trail solar project in North Carolina. The photovoltaic (PV) park is located near Mayock in Currituck County and will be run under a long-term virtual power purchase agreement (PPA) with US wireless carrier Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ). Building works were initiated in October last year and were financed with a USD 420 million (EUR 382.2m) green loan plus a USD-195-million tax equity commitment from Wells Fargo. The solar farm’s area will also be used for native vegetation and wildflowers to set up a pollinator habitat.
