JinkoSolar is adding 5 gigawatts more of mono wafer capacity at the Leshan facility
- The solar supplier keeps speeding up production capacity expansion and expects 10 gigawatts of mono wafers production within the framework of Sichuan project annually starting with Q2 of the next year.
The China-based solar colossus Jinko is moving to a new level in terms of growing the production capacity.
Although the latest data has shown that the solar ambitions for the end of 2019 failed, China is still receiving lots of orders from abroad.
Jinko has reported on Friday it is planning to produce additional 5 gigawatts of yearly mono wafer capacity in the new facility located in Leshan, the province of Sichuan.
With the wafer facility only announced in spring, the latest update shows it has even surpassed expectations of the plant owner regarding the time schedule to reach full production.
Speeded-up project development
In April of the current year the company planned to finish construction of 5-gigawatt-capacity wafer plant during Q4 of 2019 and to start production during the following quarter. The facility originated as part of Jinko’s ambition to reach 11 gigawatt of mono wafer yearly production capacity by late 2019.
Practically, the first phase of the fab started production in Q2 of 2019 and has achieved full output by now. This has inspired the manufacturer to add another 5 gigawatts of production capacity, which is expected to be achieved in Q2 of 2020.
As soon as this goal is reached, the supplier will have 18 gigawatts of capacity, compared to the current 13 gigawatts.
The huge solar boom showed up in April 2019. At that time, the Leshan project was expected in part due to the Jinko’s fulfilling orders for 10 gigawatt of mono module capacity. The orders have been coming from different parts of the globe, among them Vietnam, Mexico and Spain.
