German energy storage specialist Intilion GmbH has completed the delivery of all major components for a 65-MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Switzerland, the company announced on Tuesday.

The project, commissioned by regional utility Primeo Energie, is being developed in Kappel and is set to enhance both supply security and system flexibility in the Swiss power grid.

Intilion coordinated the complex international logistics and transport of the equipment, which included battery containers, transformers, inverters, control systems, cabling materials, and accessories. The company oversaw the movement of battery containers from its manufacturing partner in China, using a combination of sea freight, inland shipping, and warehousing before final delivery to Switzerland.

“By securing the logistics chain from Asia to the final site, we ensured safe and timely delivery of the entire system,” the company stated.

In the coming weeks, the delivered units will be assembled, cabled, and installed on-site, followed by a phased commissioning process. Once operational, the facility will provide critical storage capacity to balance renewable energy inputs and support grid reliability.

“The project will contribute to the security of supply and flexibility of the energy system,” commented Pablo Frezzi, project manager for substations at Primeo Energie.

Intilion first announced the Swiss project in December 2024, positioning it as a flagship installation in the company’s growing international portfolio of large-scale storage solutions. The 65-MWh system underscores the increasing demand for grid-scale energy storage in Europe, where utilities and developers are accelerating investments to stabilize networks amid higher penetration of intermittent renewable energy sources.

With this milestone, Intilion strengthens its role as a key supplier of turnkey battery storage solutions, bridging European utilities with global manufacturing partners and enabling the energy transition across borders.
