Edinburgh-headquartered energy company InterGen has safeguarded a Capacity Market contract for a 320MW battery energy storage project in the UK.

The period of the contract is 15 years.

The Gateway battery will certainly be located at DP World London Gateway on the Thames Estuary in Essex as well as will have the ability to provide up to 320MW/640 megawatt hours of power, with the potential to increase to up to 450MW/900MWh.

The honor represents a considerable landmark for the ₤ 200m project which first obtained planning authorization from BEIS in November 2020.

Construction will commence in 2023.

InterGen is additionally creating more largescale battery projects consisting of at its site in Spalding, Lincolnshire, which can supply up to 550MW/ 1,100 MWh in capacity.
