Indian state intends 880MW solar park
- The Indian state of Himachal Pradesh has introduced plans for an 880 megawatt (MW) solar park, to be developed by state-owned Satluz Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVNL).
According to chief minister of Himachal Pradesh Jai Ram Thakur, the state federal government has actually confirmed six gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy potential in the Chenab Basin along with in the Spiti area of the state. SJVNL, NTPC (formerly known as National Thermal Power Corporation Limited) and also Indian hydropower generation company NHPC have been chosen to create power projects in the Chenab river basin.
Jai Ram Thakur has advised the central government to prepare a plan for transferring power from the Spiti area and Chenab basin to the power grid.
SJVN is a joint venture of the government of India and Himachal Pradesh, and also is generally associated with hydropower project execution.
The Indian federal government introduced its renewable energy target '175GW solar by 2022' in 2015. India enhanced this target to 450GW at the Climate Action Summit in September 2019.
The National Institute of Solar Energy has recognized 33GW of solar power generation potential for the state of Himachal Pradesh, a record stated. Solar Energy Corporation of India has issued a request for option to establish 15MW of grid-connected floating solar projects in the Bilaspur area of Himachal Pradesh.
Infrastructure professional John Yeap at Pinsent Masons, the law firm behind Out-Law, stated: "India has effectively commercialised solar energy generation, as well as in so doing is well on its way to fulfilling its Paris Agreement dedications. Solar parks, as well as wind as well as energy storage space, are all adding to reducing India's reliance on nonrenewable fuel source generation."
"However, for a nation the dimension of India, and provided the number of villages that remain to be attached to the grid, PV solar generation likewise plays a crucial role in amazing the country without the cost of grid framework, thereby delivering inexpensive generation swiftly to those towns. Solar consequently is an all-round success story for India" he said.
