Indian Army Hands out Solar Lamps to Residents of Jammu and Kashmir of the Rajouri District
- The Indian Army has given out solar lamps to people of the Rajouri District as part of its free solar electricity initiative tagged ‘Operation Goodwill.
It appears ‘Operation Goodwill’ is now in full swing after the Indian Army distributed solar lanterns in the Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir. The announcement was given by a spokesperson for the department of defense. The solar lanterns were handed out in Kheta Basha village. The village has 100 houses and only a handful of these buildings have electricity.
In the absence of electricity, the army spokesperson pointed out that the villagers are facing a drawback in their daily domestic work. Additionally, the Army spokesperson said the initiative is designed to help children who have to study in the dark. He added that it will help the senior residents and provide safety to women moving at night. The scheme will reduce the resident’s dependence on kerosene lamps, which have been used as a lighting source due to poor electricity supply.
Hence, it is safe to say the scheme promotes renewable and efficient energy usage for a cleaner environment. The Army also distributed sweaters to children in the village. The local sarpanch thanked the Army for its actions.
He showed appreciation for other actions like conducting welfare and development projects in the region. Recall a previous report that India donated solar study lamps to elementary school children in Palestine in a bid to create awareness on the importance of self-sufficiency and the effects of climate change.
