ILI Group secures planning for 50MW Scottish battery
- BESS project near East Kilbride was authorized by South Lanarkshire Council's planning committee on 16 August

ILI Group, alongside its joint venture partners, Abbey Group and also Yoo Energy, has achieved planning consent for a 50MW energy storage space project in Scotland.
The project, at Cathkin near East Kilbride, was with one voice approved by the South Lanarkshire Council intending committee on 16 August.
ILI Group is behind prepare for 4GW of energy storage space in Scotland, making up 2.5 GW of pumped storage hydro and 1.5 GW of battery storage space.
Mark Wilson, ILI Group chief executive officer, stated: "The Cathkin project takes us to our initial 1GW of energy storage space projects consented across 11 battery storage projects and also our 'Red John' Pumped Storage Hydro project at Loch Ness.
" We are now 1/4 of the way to our target of 4GW.
" We are presently preparing a 400MW portfolio of 'prepared to construct' battery storage space projects that will be ready for the market later on this year.
" A large boost in energy storage is a crucial catalyst for the further development of renewable resource as well as reducing reliance on fossil fuels, Projects like Cathkin will aid the UK realise its net zero desires."
