Hungary reaches 13.9% renewables share in 2020 final energy
- At the end of 2021, the Hungarian Energy and Utilities Regulatory Authority (MEKH) launched official 2020 data showing that the renewable resource share in gross final energy consumption hit 13.9%.
This share, a 1.3 portion factor increase from 2019, suggests Hungary slightly exceeded its 13% target for 2020 under Directive 2009/28/EC.
In 2020, manufacturing of main energy sources decreased by 2% to 451,673 TJ. This was primarily as a result of a 5.7% decrease for fossil fuels and a reduction of 1.5% for nuclear, while production by renewables was up by 1.4%.
Primary residential intake inched down by 1.5%. Renewable resource usage increased by 4.6%, while fossil fuel energy usage was down 2.1%.
Biomass energy production continued to be on the slide, while solar power manufacturing leapt by 59.3% from 2019. At end-2020, Hungary had over 2 GW of planetary systems installed. The country lately ended its 3rd renewables public auction, granting contracts for distinction (CfDs) to 183 MW of solar projects for 15 years.
