Hecate Energy Wins El Paso Bid
- Hecate Energy has won the 100 MW Santa Teresa Project. The project is part of the 350 MW solar generation and storage developed to add clean energy to the EPE system.
"The project whose approval is still pending will be constructed on Santa Teresa. The project will be completed by May 2022. Already, EPE has signed a long term agreement to buy the project's output. It is envisaged that the generated power will enable EPE to meet the summer peak season in 2022 and 2023. The new resource will be used instead of the less efficient gas generated power.
Hecate’s Manager of Development said that they were glad that El Paso would supply emission-free energy to EPE. He added that the project was significant and was proof that they could deliver solar energy more economically.
EPE customers have continued to increase because of decreasing renewable energy prices. Besides, the company has greatly changed customers’ expectations by offering sustainable solutions.
Adrian J. Rodriguez –EPE interim Chief Executive said that the company was committed to increasing power generation capacity while it tries to meet the customer’s ever-changing clean and reliable energy needs.
On completion, the project would supply electricity to more than 40,000 homes.
EPE was the first company to go 100 percent coal-free in New Mexico and Texas. In doing so, it eliminated 2 billion pounds of CO2 from the environment.
EPE is a top utility company in North America. It avails thousands of clean carbon-free energy to its customers. The project will help it deliver even more energy to its clients."
