Hanergy sets up a new solar cell efficiency record
- Chengdu R&D Center of Hanergy has established a new conversion efficiency record for silicon heterojunction cells.
The new achievement of 25.11% efficiency for a 244.45 sq cm cell has been approved by ISFH. The previous peak efficiency index achieved by Hanergy constituted 24.85% for 6″ silicon cell.
The technology applied by the thin-film company is based on indium tin oxide conductive films and SPEs. The inexpensive materials used enable the manufacturer to reduce the flow production cost and efficiently expand the market. The technology utilizes cheap but high-effective local equipment and manufacturing process easily adjusted for continuous production.
SHJ is characterized by high parameters of service life, outdoor resistance, efficiency and performance. Other benefits include high-temperature power generation, zero PID and zero light decay. All the above pros make the technology perfectly suitable for ground-mounted and distributed power plants, vertical solar panels, PVs for fishery and agriculture, solar solutions for residential use and electric vehicles.
The research and development center was established eight years ago. Throughout its existence, the center has implemented numerous innovative approaches and obtained vast experience in production and application of a-Si, μc-Si and TCO films.
The scientists from Chengdu center have been developing methods to decrease SHJ time and money expenditure by means of industrial-scale flow production and manufacture of cells right on local production equipment.
During the last two years, Hanergy has managed to improve PV cell efficiency considerably, with the annual efficiency increase of 1%.
