Gujarat adds 7.5 GW renewables in seven months, led by solar
- Gujarat lifted renewable capacity from 33.3 GW to 40.69 GW between April and October, with solar the main driver.
Gujarat has installed 7.5 GW of renewable capacity in just seven months, raising its total to about 40.7 GW and cementing its status among India’s top clean-energy states. Solar did the heavy lifting, supported by streamlined approvals, land pooling in hybrid parks, and improved grid infrastructure. The Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited is targeting a 100-GW renewable system by 2030, leveraging strong industrial demand from chemicals, pharma, and heavy manufacturing.
Behind the acceleration: clearer tariffs, faster interconnection, and policy stability that reduces developer risk. Massive projects in Khavda are anchoring growth, while revised norms have eased module sourcing. As capacity surges, curtailment management and storage build-out become critical—expect more tenders that value firm, round-the-clock supply blending wind, solar, and multi-hour batteries.
For investors, Gujarat’s message is consistent: scale is possible when land, grid, and procurement align. For the grid, daytime abundance must soon be paired with evening flexibility; co-located batteries and demand-side programs will be the next chapter.
