LEAG president Thorsten Kramer claimed he is delighted that the very first obstacle for the project has been cleared with the decision of the Spremberg city councillors.

He said: "Thanks to the good preparation of our project designer together with the LEAG departments, we can take one more action in increasing our green electricity portfolio.

" We want to totally replace LEAG's existing 7GW of conventional power generation capacity with renewable power generation capacity as well as also expand the scope of services.

" Our current project pipe, which we have actually established together with EPNE, currently includes projects with a volume of 2GW, which are already in the planning stage as well as some remain in the authorization process."

EPNE managing director Dominique Guillou said: "We are additionally functioning very closely with the community on the Huhnerwasser und Wolkenberg PV park as well as are implementing the unique principle of the green solar park.

" In this way, we advertise ecological diversity and adapt the system to the landscape with landscape building steps.

" Together with the up to 300MWp solid PV park, we already have well over 1GW of wind and PV projects in ongoing authorization and also construction monitoring procedures for our participation partner LEAG alone.

" These projects develop the basis for the change of the Lusatian opencast mines right into CO2-neutral energy and also financial areas."
