Engineering and design consultancy Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions (GDG) has been selected by Wills Bros to complete civil and geotechnical design for enabling works on the recommended 70MW Timahoe North Solar Farm in Ireland.

The County Kildare project is a suggested joint development between ESB as well as Bord na Móna.

Its place on a cutaway peat bog requires careful factor to consider to the design and also construction techniques and reduction demands within the soft peat ground conditions, GDG said.

The company's extent of works consists of the design of new floated gain access to tracks along a disused railway line, earthworks design for the substation compound and also a compound location for professionals.

A peat repository for storage of excavated materials, temporary drainage systems and also settlement ponds, in addition to design advice for grid connections is also on the agenda.

GDG handling director Indrasenan Thusyanthan claimed: "We have extensive experience in finding ingenious engineering services for projects with difficult ground conditions, such as peat. We're delighted to bring this experience to the Timahoe North Solar Farm."

The engineering consultancy is a company unit of Venterra Group.
