GAF Energy's DOE-backed Solar Roof Testing Facility Expansion
- GAF Energy's Timberline Solar facility, backed by the US Department of Energy, is set to revolutionize solar roofing technology for more energy-efficient homes.
US solar shingle provider GAF Energy announced plans to construct a solar roofing testing facility called Timberline Solar, supported by a grant from the US Department of Energy. The project aims to advance Building Integrated Solar (BIPV) testing and develop models for roof-integrated solar shingles to improve heating and air conditioning efficiency in homes.
The initiative, in partnership with Sandia National Laboratories, is part of a larger USD-71-million investment in research and development projects to enhance the US solar supply chain. GAF Energy, a Standard Industries company, recently opened a manufacturing facility in Georgetown, Texas and is currently searching for a location for the new testing facility.
