FMPA's 450 MW Expansion: Powering Up Florida's Solar Future
- FMPA and Origis Energy partner to expand Florida Municipal Solar Project to 600 MW, providing low-cost, reliable solar power to 20 municipal electric utilities by 2026. Cost-effective for customers and greener for the environment.
The Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA), with 20 municipal electric utilities and Origis Energy, has announced plans to expand the Florida Municipal Solar Project, one of the largest municipal-backed solar projects in the nation. Upon completion, the expansion will quadruple the amount of solar power currently generated by the project, bringing it up to an impressive 600 MW. This will be accomplished through two phases, with an additional four solar farms added in Phase 3 and completion of the project by the end of 2026. The cost of solar power from the project is approximately one-third the cost of a typical private, rooftop solar system, making it a cost-effective and reliable option for participating customers. The participating cities will reap the benefits of this solar expansion and provide a greener, reliable source of power for their constituents.
What Benefits Will Florida's 600MW Solar Expansion Offer?
- Significant reduction in carbon emissions
- Improved air quality
- Lower energy costs for participating customers
- Reliable source of renewable energy
- More local solar jobs created in the construction and maintenance of the solar farms
- Increased use of solar energy across the state of Florida
- Reduced dependence on fossil fuels
- Increased energy security for participating cities
- Opportunity for participating cities to meet renewable energy goals while saving money
