EV Policy Gets the Green Light To Prepare For 5 Lakh Vehicles By 2024
- Kejriwal government is doing all it can to reduce the pollution levels in Delhi. To reinforce on this, it has cleared and committed to implementing the newly formulated EV policy. In its new strategy, the government has planned to have at least 5 lakh EVs registered to help eliminate air pollution. It means that the capital is ready for commercial and two-wheeler EV cars. Meanwhile, the government is staying clear of the private vehicle market since it has no ability to act as a major player there.
Meanwhile, the government has formed an electric vehicle board for the EV. The board together with the department of transport will be responsible for the implementation of the policy. According to Kejriwal, the Delhi government will promote the EVs by providing a subsidy. It will also purchase Rs 5,000kWh. Besides, it will scrap incentives of up to Rs, 5000. Also, the government has waived registration fees and road tax for EV powered cars in the next 3 years.
There is also an incentive of Rs ten thousand per kWh for the first one thousand cars. But this will be limited to Rs, 1, 50,000 per car. Besides, the Delhi government wants all the leased cars to become EV compliant in the next 90 days. It targets to have about 35,000 electric four wheels, cars, and buses by next year. It also plans to have 250 public charging stations and about 1,000 electric cars.
The objective is to have clean energy transportation to reduce the pollution problem in Delhi. According to Kejriwal, 80 % of carbon monoxide emission and 40% of pollution is caused by the car combustion engine.
This is the reason why the government came up with an EV policy in 2018. The goal of the policy was to reduce vehicle emission and pollution by supporting the electrification of transport.
