EU and AfDB to fund Rural Electrification in Togo to a tune of €12million
- The EU and AfDF to fund rural electrification program in Togo to a tune of 12 million Euros
The European Union and the African Development Bank have signed an agreement with the Togolese government to provide funds to support the CIZO electrification program. Representatives from the EU and AfDB signed the agreement in the Togolese capital. Present were Marie Laure Akin for AfDB west Africa, AU representative Bruno Hanses and the Togolese minister of mines and Energy – Marc Ably –Bidamon.
The agreement is part of the PRAVOST project that targets to install electricity in 314 health centers and equip 122 health facilities with solar powered water heaters. PRAVOST will also install 600 solar pumps for irrigation and 400 drinking water supplies. The rural electrification program targets 2000 homes through its PayGo and solar mini-grids platforms.
Marie –Laure –Olugbade said that AfDB was happy to be part of the historic project that aims at improving the living standards of the people of Togo.
EU and AfDB are committed to providing electricity to isolated villages at low cost through the off-grid solar solutions. It will go a long way to help improve access to clean energy to communities in off-grid areas. It will also benefit farmers because it would deploy solar irrigation pumps in over five hundred rural areas municipalities.
The financing is part of the banks ‘’High 5’’, which is the five strategic priorities the bank is putting in place. It will go a long way towards meeting the objectives envisaged in the National Development Plan. It can be compared to Sustainable Development Goal whose aim is to ensure access to modern but affordable and sustainable energy.
