ESB has today opened up a 19MW energy storage battery plant at Aghada in County Cork, Ireland.

The center will certainly help give grid stability and also deliver more renewables on Ireland's electrical energy system.

ESB is working with partners Fluence, and Irish firms Powercomm Group and Kirby Group, in the delivery of Aghada, in addition to various other projects at Inchicore, South Wall as well as Poolbeg.

ESB chief executive Paddy Hayes (visualized, left) said: "ESB's Aghada site has a historical background of development, and its variety of reliable gas generation innovations remain to play a vital role for Ireland's power system.

" Today marks an additional vital landmark for Aghada as well as ESB, in commissioning this fast-acting battery unit that will certainly support the national grid.

" This is ESB's first battery project in Ireland-- this and also 4 various other battery projects now in growth by ESB will certainly supply 300MW of battery capacity within the next two years.

" These projects will support the delivery of a steady and cleaner electrical power grid, which is set to be powered by 80 per cent renewable generation by 2030."

Preacher for Public Expenditure and also Reform Michael McGrath (visualized, centre) stated: "This innovation will play a crucial duty in assisting in much more renewable sources of energy onto the electrical energy system as we proceed our aim in federal government to supply the targets set out in the Climate Action Plan.

" I am delighted to be below today with ESB and also their partner Fluence, that with the help of several Irish firms have actually introduced the first in a collection of battery storage space projects.

" ESB has a solid history in Co Cork as well as with projects such as this, the region will play an important part in supplying its Net Zero approach right into the future."

Fluence head of state of EMEA Paul McCusker (imagined, right) said: "Today's opening of the Aghada project is yet another advance for Ireland and also its energy change.

" It shows exactly how energy storage systems can successfully displace fossil fuel plants and provide Ireland low-carbon flexible capacity to balance the electrical power network.

" The project is built with the use of our Gridstack energy storage product that can respond within 150 nanoseconds as well as give approximately two hrs of discharge at full power.

" It belongs of a previously revealed 300 MWh power storage space profile-- the biggest in the European Union-- that Fluence is proud to be establishing with ESB in Ireland."
