Eolus lines up 100-MW stand-alone battery in Sweden

  • Eolus secures its first Swedish battery site in SE4, paving the way for up to 100 MW of stand-alone storage to bolster grid stability.

Swedish developer Eolus has locked down its first site for a battery-only energy storage project at home, securing land in the SE4 electricity-price area that can host up to 100 MW of capacity.

The plot, won through a competitive process, sits between two existing substations—an advantage Eolus says will speed grid connection and help bolster regional stability. The company will now move into permitting talks with local authorities and Svenska kraftnät, aiming to start construction once approvals and commercial arrangements are in place.

The scheme is a milestone for the 1990-founded developer, which rebranded from Eolus Vind AB to simply “Eolus” in June 2025 to reflect a broader focus on wind, solar and storage across Europe and the US.

Eolus already has a storage track record abroad: in January it sold the 100 MW / 400 MWh “Pome” BESS in California after bringing it to late-construction stage, demonstrating bankable know-how the firm can now replicate in Sweden.

Sweden’s utility-scale battery pipeline is gathering pace—Cloudberry and Hafslund, for instance, took FID on the 24 MW Dingelsundet BESS the same day—yet Eolus’ planned installation would be among the country’s largest stand-alone systems announced so far.
