  • ENGIE is launching a 225-megawatt solar project in cooperation with Long Draw Solar. The Texas-headquartered energy company is going to serve four cities in the state of Texas as well as their energy providers through the Power Purchase Agreement signed for the above solar project.

Announced for the next summer, Long Draw system — the biggest solar venture for now in ENGIE’s reference list — is to be installed in Borden County (the state of Texas). The station will consist of over 800,000 photovoltaic panels; about 150 employees will be hired for the peak stage of construction. The total amount of taxes received by Borden County in the course of the solution deployment is forecasted to exceed $10m.

The agreement was signed as a result of a request for green energy offers by New Braunfels Utilities, in cooperation with electricity utilities of Denton, Garland and Kerrville. A purchase order was for power supply by ENGIE and Long Draw. It was aimed at modifying their energy supply sources and reducing retail electricity tariffs.

According to the purchase contract with a 15-year validity period, NBU is purchasing 100MW of energy from the solar project. DME will get 75 megawatts of total capacity, GP&L and KPUB – by 25 MW each.

ENGIE reports that their goal is diversifying alternative energy sources. They are planning to complete the project in summer 2020, which will result in zero carbon and cheap energy for the forthcoming years.
