  • Engie partners with Fluence to deliver cutting-edge battery storage system in the Netherlands, enhancing energy security and grid stability.

French energy group Engie SA has contracted Fluence Energy Inc to deliver a 35-MW/100-MWh battery energy storage system project in the Netherlands. The battery facility will be installed in Lelystad alongside gas-fired and solar power generation sources, providing flexibility services to the Dutch electricity system and enhancing energy security.

Fluence will supply the energy storage technology and software solutions for the project, which is expected to be commissioned next year. The partnership between Engie and Fluence aims to strengthen grid stability as the energy transition accelerates, following their successful collaboration on the Hazelwood storage project in Australia.

How will Engie and Fluence's battery project enhance energy security in the Netherlands?

  • The battery energy storage system project will provide flexibility services to the Dutch electricity system, helping to balance supply and demand and maintain grid stability.
  • By integrating the battery facility with gas-fired and solar power generation sources, Engie and Fluence will create a more resilient and reliable energy system in the Netherlands.
  • The project will enhance energy security by ensuring a stable and secure supply of electricity, even during times of high demand or unexpected disruptions.
  • Engie and Fluence's partnership will contribute to the acceleration of the energy transition in the Netherlands, supporting the country's goals of increasing renewable energy capacity and reducing carbon emissions.
  • The commissioning of the 35-MW/100-MWh battery energy storage system project next year will mark a significant milestone in the development of sustainable energy infrastructure in the Netherlands.
