Engie, companions commission 60 MW of Scaling Solar plants in Senegal

  • French energy group Engie SA (EPA: ENGI) announced on Monday it had commissioned two solar farms with an integrated ability of 60 MW in Senegal, alongside project companions French fund manager Meridiam and also Senegalese riches sovereign fund FONSIS.

The triad funded and also implemented the 35-MW Kahone Solaire SA and the 25-MW Kael Solaire SA projects, located in the Kaolack and Diourbel areas, specifically.

Both projects came out of the Scaling Solar initiative, a World Bank Group program aimed at supporting federal governments in arising markets to organise tenders and also procurement of solar power. The Engie-Meridiam consortium protected Kahone and Kael in Senegal's first Scaling Solar tender after placing bids of below EUR 0.04 (USD 0.049) per kilowatt-hour.

Both plants will certainly run under a 25-year power acquisition agreement (PPA) with regional electrical power business Senelec.

Engie and Meridiam each hold a 40% risk in the project firm taking care of the concession, while FONSIS owns the remaining 20%.
