- Chilean utility Engie Energia Chile SA said on Wednesday it had gotten a permit to begin commercial operation of its 87.9-MW Capricornio solar farm.
The plant is situated some 35 kilometres (21.7 miles) from the city of Antofagasta. The utility installed around 249,210 solar panels and also smart trackers for this project, which will enable Capricornio to create enough electrical power to power some 36,000 households in northern Chile.
The most up to date milestone bookends a year that started with Engie Chile launching the Tamaya solar farm in February 2022. In the meantime, the business took offline its last coal-fired unit, secured a licence for a 300-MW solar project with storage and also increased to the south of the nation via the procurement of 2 functional wind farms.
