  • Enerparc AG transforms a former NATO airfield into a solar powerhouse, powering 21,000 homes and boosting local business energy solutions in Eggebek, Germany.

Enerparc AG has launched an 80-MWp solar park at a former NATO airfield in Eggebek, Germany, on July 16, 2025. The facility spans 70 hectares and marks the first phase of a larger project, with an additional 17-MWp section under construction. The solar park supplies 4.5 MWp directly to local grid operator GPC Gewerbepark Carstensen GmbH, allowing nearby businesses to enter direct power-purchase agreements, while the rest is fed into the public grid via the Schobüll substation.

The current solar installation can power over 21,000 four-person households annually, with the upcoming extension increasing this capacity by 5,000 households. The project includes a 600-kWh battery storage system developed with Naext, utilizing repurposed electric-vehicle batteries.

How does Enerparc's new solar park impact local energy supply and business opportunities?

  • Enhances local energy independence by reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
  • Provides stable and potentially lower energy costs for local businesses through direct power-purchase agreements.
  • Encourages economic growth by attracting new businesses interested in sustainable energy solutions.
  • Creates job opportunities in the region, both during the construction phase and for ongoing maintenance and operations.
  • Supports local grid stability with the integration of a battery storage system, ensuring a more reliable energy supply.
  • Promotes environmental sustainability by significantly reducing carbon emissions in the region.
  • Sets a precedent for the repurposing of former military sites for renewable energy projects, potentially inspiring similar initiatives elsewhere.
  • Strengthens community engagement and awareness of renewable energy benefits, fostering a culture of sustainability.
