  • ENEOS and Toshiba partner to power Japan with solar energy, cutting 955 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually through innovative PPAs.

ENEOS Renewable Energy Corp (ERE) has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Toshiba Group companies in Japan. Under the agreements, ERE will supply electricity generated from 1.9 MW of solar capacity in Kyushu to Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corp (Toshiba ESS), which will then sell 2.29 million kWh annually to the Japan Electric Power Exchange (JEPX).

The environmental value from the solar energy will be provided to Buzen Toshiba Electronics Corporation through a virtual PPA. This arrangement is expected to help Buzen Toshiba reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 955 tonnes of CO2 annually.

How will ENEOS and Toshiba's PPA impact greenhouse gas emissions in Japan?

  • The PPA between ENEOS and Toshiba will contribute to Japan's renewable energy targets by increasing the share of solar energy in the national grid.
  • By supplying 2.29 million kWh of solar energy annually, the agreement will reduce reliance on fossil fuels, thereby decreasing overall greenhouse gas emissions.
  • The reduction of approximately 955 tonnes of CO2 annually at Buzen Toshiba Electronics Corporation will set a precedent for other companies to adopt similar renewable energy solutions.
  • The virtual PPA model can encourage more businesses to invest in renewable energy, further reducing the carbon footprint across various industries in Japan.
  • The initiative supports Japan's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change.
  • The collaboration between ENEOS and Toshiba may inspire other corporations to form similar partnerships, amplifying the impact on greenhouse gas emission reductions nationwide.
