Enel X will deliver a 22MW solar plant to Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Airport, scheduled to begin construction by the end of 2023 and be completed in 2024. The plant, located parallel to runway No.3, will cover an area of 340,000 square metres and be complemented with a 10MWh storage system based on second life electric vehicle batteries. This project is part of a larger goal for zero CO2 emissions by 2030 set by Aeroporti di Roma (ADR). Enel X Chief Executive Francesco Venturini said this solar energy plant will be “the largest in Europe”, while ADR Chief Executive Marco Troncone believes this marks a “significant step” in the collaboration between Enel X and ADR to help mitigate climate change and relaunch the Italian airport sector.
