Enel Delivers First Power from 132.2-MW Colombian Solar Farm

Enel Colombia has announced that its 132.2-MW solar farm in Fundación, Colombia has begun feeding energy into the grid. This solar farm, worth around USD 109 million in investments, consists of 244,800 solar panels spread across a 237-hectare site. Construction began a year ago and is currently around 65% complete, with the installation of 30% of the solar panels. Additionally, the project was awarded a long-term power purchase agreement in Colombia’s October 2021 renewable energy auction, meaning that the solar farm will be delivering energy to the grid from 2023 to 2037.
What Impact Will Enel's 132.2-MW Solar Farm Have?
- Enel's 132.2-MW solar farm has been designed to generate enough energy to power more than 200,000 homes in Colombia.
- The solar farm is expected to offset approximately 250,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions each year and will help Colombia move closer to its commitment of reaching 35% electricity generated from renewable sources by 2030.
- The project is part of Enel’s commitment to developing renewable energy solutions and increasing the use of clean energy in the country.
- It is also expected to create jobs in the areas of construction, maintenance, and operation, as well as supporting local suppliers.
- Enel is also looking to create a local education and training program to help train people in the areas of solar energy production, installation, and maintenance.
