  • Emeren Group Ltd and Glennmont Partners join forces to develop 155 MW of battery energy storage systems in Italy, boosting renewable energy investment goals.

Emeren Group Ltd and Glennmont Partners have agreed to co-develop 155 MW of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in southern Italy. The projects, totaling up to 1.24 GWh, will be located in the Campania and Puglia regions. Construction is set to begin in late 2025, with commercial operations expected to start in early 2027.

The collaboration aims to bring strong returns for investors and enhance the resilience of the renewable energy sector in Italy. Francesco Cacciabue, Partner and CFO at Glennmont Partners, believes that these projects have the potential to significantly impact renewable energy investment goals in the region and beyond.

What are the expected benefits of the 155 MW BESS projects in southern Italy?

  • Increased grid stability and reliability: The BESS projects will help to balance the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, by storing excess energy and releasing it when needed.
  • Enhanced integration of renewable energy: By providing a means to store and dispatch renewable energy more effectively, the BESS projects will support the growth of clean energy generation in southern Italy.
  • Reduced carbon emissions: The use of battery energy storage systems can help to reduce the reliance on fossil fuel-based power plants, leading to a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Economic benefits: The construction and operation of the BESS projects will create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the Campania and Puglia regions.
  • Energy cost savings: By optimizing the use of renewable energy resources and reducing the need for expensive peak power generation, the BESS projects could help to lower energy costs for consumers in southern Italy.
