Egyptian-French Consortium Powers Metal Industries with Renewables

An Egyptian-French consortium is exploring the possibility of building two solar energy plants to serve Egypt's metal industries and aluminum sector. The delegation from the consortium, which consists of Orascom Construction PLC and Engie, met with the Egyptian public business sector minister Mahmoud Esmat to discuss the potential projects, as well as the opportunities for cooperation between both sides in the field of renewables. The meeting follows the country's strategy to increase renewable energy supplies and raise renewable power capacity in comparison to the electricity grid's generated power. If the proposals come to fruition, the two solar plants will be built in Nagaa Hammadi's aluminum park and the new aluminum production project in Safaga.

What Projects Are the Egyptian-French Consortium Exploring?

  • The two solar plants will be built in Nagaa Hammadi's aluminum park and the new aluminum production project in Safaga.
  • The plants will provide energy to Egypt's metal industries and aluminum sector.
  • The plants will be built in line with the country's strategy to increase renewable energy supplies and raise renewable power capacity.
  • Both sides are also exploring further opportunities for cooperation in the field of renewables.
  • The potential projects would reduce dependence on the electricity grid's generated power.
  • The plants will be built with the help of technologies from both Egyptian and French companies.
