  • Colombian oil significant Ecopetrol SA (NYSE: EC) on Friday announced the commissioning of a 26-MWp solar farm in Huila, a self-supply project developed to power its oil fields in the southern Colombia department.

Construction of the plant Ecoparque Solar Brisas was granted to utility firm AES Colombia, which will also supply its production output to Ecopetrol under a 15-year power purchase agreeement (PPA).

The Brisas solar eco-park spans a location of around 21 hectares (51.9 acres) in the community of Aipe. It is furnished with over 49,000 bifacial solar modules mounted on trackers, Ecopetrol stated.

AES Colombia, part of United States electric utility group AES Corp (NYSE: AES), formerly constructed the 21-MWp Castilla and the 61-MWp San Fernando solar self-supply projects for Ecopetrol, likewise under the PPA model.

The oil company recently purchased even more solar farms for its hydrocarbon operations in the country, hiring French renewables strong Total Eren for a 100-MWp project at the Rubiales oil field in the Meta department.
