  • DRD's 20MW solar project at Limes Farm empowers renewable energy, supports local agriculture, and benefits the community with free solar panels and funding for local projects.

Downing Renewable Developments (DRD) has received planning consent for a 20MW solar project at Limes Farm Solar Park in Bourne, Lincolnshire. The project allows the landowner to continue sheep grazing, supporting agricultural diversification and contributing to renewable energy targets. As part of a community benefit package, DRD will provide free solar panel installations to up to 80 local homes and £100,000 to Bourne Town Council for local projects.

This project is part of DRD's 6GW pipeline of UK renewable developments, including a 40MW battery project in the East Midlands, a 100MW BESS project in the West Midlands, and a 49.9MW solar farm in Norfolk. Tony Gannon, Head of DRD, emphasized the project's support from the local planning committee and its design considerations for landscape, biodiversity, and community benefits.

How does DRD's Limes Farm Solar Park benefit the local community and environment?

  • Enhances local energy resilience by providing a stable and sustainable energy source.
  • Reduces carbon footprint and contributes to national renewable energy targets.
  • Supports local biodiversity through habitat creation and preservation initiatives.
  • Offers educational opportunities for local schools and community groups to learn about renewable energy and sustainability.
  • Increases local employment opportunities during the construction and maintenance phases.
  • Promotes agricultural diversification by allowing dual land use for solar energy and sheep grazing.
  • Strengthens community ties through financial contributions to local projects and infrastructure improvements.
  • Encourages further investment in renewable energy projects within the region.
