  • DOE invests $63.5 million in clean energy tech, including Antora Energy's thermal battery. Boosting American manufacturing and national security.

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has allocated USD 63.5 million to support the commercialization of four clean energy technologies, including a thermal battery developed by Antora Energy. Antora Energy has been selected to receive up to USD 14.5 million to scale up production of its thermal battery technology, which can be charged by renewable energy sources and provide heat and power on demand for industrial facilities. This funding will allow Antora to expand its manufacturing capacity and accelerate the launch of its combined heat and power product.

The funding comes from the SCALEUP program, which aims to provide support to projects that have de-risked their technology and have a clear path to commercial deployment. Other projects selected for funding include Ion Storage Systems, focusing on solid-state lithium-metal batteries for electric vehicles, AeroShield Materials working on aerogels for energy-efficient insulated glass units, and Queens Carbon focusing on cement decarbonization. US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm emphasized that by supporting the commercialization of these technologies, the DOE is helping to boost American manufacturing, strengthen national security, and maintain a competitive edge in the clean energy sector.

How will DOE funding for thermal battery technology impact clean energy sector?

  • The funding from the DOE for thermal battery technology will allow Antora Energy to scale up production and accelerate the launch of its combined heat and power product.
  • This will enable Antora Energy to expand its manufacturing capacity, creating more jobs and contributing to the growth of the clean energy sector.
  • The thermal battery technology developed by Antora Energy can be charged by renewable energy sources, making it a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution for industrial facilities.
  • The funding from the SCALEUP program will help de-risk the technology and provide a clear path to commercial deployment, ensuring the success of the project.
  • By supporting the commercialization of these clean energy technologies, the DOE is not only boosting American manufacturing but also strengthening national security and maintaining a competitive edge in the clean energy sector.
