  • Portugal's MCA and Angola's Ministry of Energy bring solar power to Moxico with 25.3-MWp park, lighting up lives for 59,483 people.

Portugal's MCA, in partnership with Angola's Ministry of Energy and Water, has inaugurated a 25.3-MWp solar photovoltaic park in Angola's Moxico province. The Luena Photovoltaic Park, built at a cost of EUR 36.9 million, consists of 43,680 solar panels and is capable of providing electricity to 59,483 people. MCA collaborated with US company Sun Africa to construct the park, which is the fourth of seven solar farms being developed by the company in Angola.

MCA is leading the construction of the seven solar parks in Angola with a total capacity of 370 MWp, with the remaining plants expected to be operational by the end of the year. The Luena Photovoltaic Park is part of Angola's rural electrification project under the "Energia Angola 2025" plan, which aims to increase access to electricity for around 77% of the rural population in the country.
