  • Generadora Metropolitana's CEME1 solar farm in Chile is set to be the largest in the country, powering over half a million homes with clean energy by 2024.

Generadora Metropolitana has energised its 480-MW CEME1 solar farm in Chile's Antofagasta region, with plans to inaugurate the plant in the first half of 2024. The solar farm, built by PowerChina in the Atacama desert, is now the largest solar photovoltaic park in Chile, surpassing Enel Green Power's Guanchoi.

The CEME1 solar farm features over 882,000 solar panels covering 435 hectares and is located seven kilometres from Maria Elena. Generadora Metropolitana is currently conducting tests to ensure compliance with safety standards and quality of service. Once fully operational, the solar farm will be able to generate electricity for over half a million homes.

What makes Generadora Metropolitana's CEME1 solar farm the largest in Chile?

  • The CEME1 solar farm is the largest in Chile due to its impressive capacity of 480 MW, surpassing other solar parks in the country.
  • The solar farm is located in the Atacama desert, known for its high levels of solar radiation, making it an ideal location for solar energy generation.
  • With over 882,000 solar panels covering 435 hectares, the CEME1 solar farm is able to harness a significant amount of solar energy to generate electricity.
  • Generadora Metropolitana's focus on safety standards and quality of service during the testing phase ensures that the solar farm will operate efficiently and effectively once fully operational.
  • Once operational, the CEME1 solar farm will have the capacity to generate electricity for over half a million homes, making a significant contribution to Chile's renewable energy goals.
