- Chilean officials recently inaugurated the 3-MW Tamarugo solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Tamagural district, northern Chilean region of Tarapaca.
Spread over a 7.5 hectare (185.3 acres) area in the commune of Pozo Almonte, the PV farm contains 7,587 bifacial modules, the Chilean ministry of power claimed on Friday.
Tamarugo is qualified as a PMGD park, a Spanish phrase for small-scale distributed generation, and also as such is entitled to sell its outcome at a controlled stabilised price.
Generally, Tamarugo is expected to be able to create 8,110 MWh annually, sufficient to satisfy the yearly energy consumption of 77% of Pozo Almonte.
The company behind the project is CVE Chile, a unit of French renewable resource IPP CVE Group.
