Bosnia Greenlights 150-MW Solar Project

Elektroprivreda HZHB, a state-owned power utility in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been granted government approval to build a 150-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) park in its home country. The permit covers a scheme to be located in the Stolac municipality, within the Hodovo Economic and Business Zone. The project, dubbed EPHZHB 1, will require around USD 98.9 million in investments and is expected to generate around 263 GWh of electricity annually. This move is part of the efforts of Bosnia and Herzegovina to increase its green energy capacity.

What Is EPHZHB 1: A 150-MW Solar PV Park?

  • The EPHZHB 1 project aims to produce enough energy to power over 50,000 households.
  • Construction of the project is scheduled to start in 2021 and take two and a half years to complete.
  • The project will be funded with a combination of loans and grants from local and international financial institutions, and private sector investments.
  • The solar park will have an advanced monitoring and control system to ensure the highest level of efficiency.
  • The project will create hundreds of jobs during the construction phase.
  • Once operational, the solar park will help reduce carbon emissions and contribute significantly to Bosnia and Herzegovina's goal of achieving a 30 percent share of renewable energy by 2023.
