Bloomberg Partners with Ørsted for Largest US Solar Project
- Ørsted's largest solar project in the US, the Mockingbird Solar Center, will provide Bloomberg with renewable energy to cover 100% of its US electricity usage and 80% of global usage, while preserving native prairie and boosting the local economy.
Clean energy developer Ørsted has signed an 80MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with Bloomberg for renewable energy generated by the Mockingbird Solar Center in Texas. The project, which is Ørsted's largest solar project in the US, will incorporate conservation efforts to protect native tallgrass prairie. Bloomberg is one of four corporate customers purchasing power from the project, and this agreement brings the Mockingbird project to a fully contracted status for its 471 MW capacity. Bloomberg expects the additional renewable energy sourced from the project to cover 100% of its US electricity usage and 80% of global electricity usage.
The Mockingbird Solar Center also includes a conservation program in partnership with The Nature Conservancy, preserving nearly 1,000 acres of rare, native tallgrass prairie. This is Ørsted's first biodiversity initiative in the US and will be the largest preservation effort on record for this type of native prairie. The project has also provided a boost to the local economy, creating 500 jobs during peak construction and estimated to inject $215 million into the local economy over its lifespan.
