BCPG Offloads Japan Solar Assets to Obton

- BCPG is selling its entire solar portfolio in Japan to Danish investor Obton, comprising 104MW of operational plants and 13MW of projects, valued at THB 10.38 billion. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2021.
Thai renewable energy company BCPG will sell its entire 117-MW solar portfolio in Japan to Danish investor Obton. The deal includes BCPG's Japanese unit, nine photovoltaic (PV) projects and an asset management, operation and maintenance business. The assets have been valued at THB 10.38 billion, comprising THB 6.94 billion in equity and THB 3.44 billion in debt. The sale is expected to be finalised in the first quarter of 2021. BCPG's current portfolio in Japan consists of 104 MW of operational plants and 13 MW of projects under development.
What is the Value of BCPG's Entire Japanese Solar Portfolio?
- The sale of the entire 117-MW solar portfolio marks the largest renewable energy transaction to take place in Japan in the last two years.
- All nine projects are located in Japan’s Chugoku region and the total capacity of the portfolio is expected to reach 150 MW by April 2021.
- The value of BCPG’s entire solar portfolio is estimated to be THB 10.38 billion, which comprises of THB 6.94 billion in equity and THB 3.44 billion in debt.
- The sale of the solar portfolio is expected to close in the first quarter of 2021, at which time the value of the portfolio will be finalized.
- The portfolio consists of 104 MW of operational plants and 13 MW of projects under development.
- The portfolio will generate over 12,000 gigawatt-hours of clean energy annually, which is enough to power more than 17,000 households.
- The portfolio will also help BCPG to meet its goal of increasing its renewable energy supply from 25% to 40% by 2023.
