  • Axian's groundbreaking NEA Kolda solar farm in Senegal promises to power 25,000 homes, marking a new era in sustainable energy for Casamance by 2026.

Axian's energy division has commenced construction on the NEA Kolda solar farm in southern Senegal, a 60-MW facility with 72 MWh of battery storage. Located in the Kolda region of Casamance, the plant will supply power to over 25,000 homes annually. French companies Voltalia and Entech are the EPC contractors for the project.

The EUR 105 million (USD 118.7 million) solar-plus-storage site, the first of its kind in Casamance, is slated to become operational in 2026. This development follows Axian's recent USD 5 million financing agreement with the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa to support projects in strategic African countries.

What impact will the NEA Kolda solar farm have on southern Senegal's energy supply?

  • Increase in energy reliability and stability in southern Senegal.
  • Reduction in dependency on fossil fuels and enhancement of energy security.
  • Contribution to Senegal's national renewable energy targets and climate goals.
  • Creation of local jobs during construction and operation phases.
  • Potential to stimulate economic growth and development in the Kolda region.
  • Improvement in access to electricity for rural and underserved communities.
  • Reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impact.
  • Encouragement of further renewable energy investments in the region.
