Avangrid Inc has begun generating electricity from its 238-MW True North solar complex in Texas, with commercial operations expected to start by the end of the year. The project, located near Waco in Falls County, will supply electricity to Meta Platforms Inc's data center under a power purchase agreement. Avangrid has commissioned 20 MW of the total capacity and is progressing with construction as planned.
The True North solar park will be Avangrid's largest solar site and its first in Texas, adding to the company's existing 1.2 GW of wind turbine capacity in the state. Once fully operational, the park will contribute to the Texas grid's electricity supply.
